Mark Finchem is US Representative, he was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 24, 1957 (age 63 years; as of 2021), and grew up in West Michigan. He served 21 years with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, first as a firefighter/paramedic, then as a law enforcement officer. Finchem Living outside of Kalamazoo, Mark worked as a farmer and rancher in a small rural community. When he retired, Mark Finchem moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Finchem worked in leadership roles in both small businesses and a multi-million dollar software company. In the private sector, he earned a Six Sigma Certification in process excellence.

Finchem was graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1975. Then he went on to graduate from the Southwest Michigan Regional Police Academy in 1982 and earned his A.A. in criminal justice from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1984. He graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in government with an emphasis on state and local policy in 2019.
Professionally, Finchem worked for the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety for 21 years, retiring in 1999. He then moved to Tucson, Arizona where he worked for a software manufacturer advancing to senior management before becoming a real estate broker in 2008. As of August 2019, Finchem worked as an energy policy analyst with Clean Power Technologies, LLC.
