62% of American voters say Russian President Vladimir Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if Donald Trump were the president of the United States rather than incumbent President Joe Biden, was still in office. However, 38 percent of all American voters polled believed that Putin would have invaded Ukraine even if Trump had been president.
This poll was conducted by the Harvard Center for American Political Studies (CAPS)-Harris Poll which was released this Friday. A Majority of Americans around 59% have also found that Putin moved on to Ukraine because he saw weakness in President Joe Biden, while 41 percent said that it was not a factor in Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
Around 39% of Democrats and 85% of Republicans believe that Donald J. Trump would have made Vladimir Putin think twice about launching the war. The Hill reported the survey.
After the attack on Ukraine, US President Joe Biden has expressed solidarity with Ukraine and has strongly condemned the Kremlin for what he told as 'unprovoked and unjustified attack,' the US has yet to do anything more than imposing sanctions on Russian financial institutions, Russian elites and their family members, the Nord Stream 2 AG.
However, America has failed to overtly make the call to remove Russia from the SWIFT international banking system, despite appeals from Ukrainian officials and some US lawmakers.
This poll came after Joe Biden has suffered low approval ratings in recent days.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll conducted this voters survey between Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 with around 2,026 registered voters. The survey is digitally drawn from the Harris Panel and weighted to reflect known demographics.
