Trump's Truth Social |
Even amid registration glitches and a lengthy waitlist, President Trump’s new Truth Social app received 170,000 downloads in its first day available, according to data from research firm AppTopia, a site that tracks the app ecosystem.
From a perspective, Parler has averaged only about 1,500 downloads per day on Apple over the last month, while Rumble (10,600) and Jason Miller's GETTR (12,050) have done slightly better, according to AppTopia data.
Shares of DWAC, the blank-check company behind former U.S. President Donald J. Trump's new social media venture, Truth Social, rose about 14% on Tuesday as the app topped downloads on Apple's App Store after its launch late on President Day 2022.
Truth Social could mark Donald Trump's return to social media after he was banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube, following an attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021.
The DWAC stock was also trending high on investor-focused social media site stocktwits.com, indicating interest from retail traders.
"From a fundamental perspective, it's too early to tell everything. Trump has a massive following of supporters and they could move from traditional social media to this platform... but it depends on how good the app is."
Even new users are also facing trouble using this app, many of them getting an Error 1020 while some of them are also facing Access denied issue: This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. New users faced trouble signing up for this free app and were placed on a waitlist that cited "massive demand" soon after the launch. It was unclear if the issues were resolved by Tuesday.
A SPAC, or special purpose acquisition company Corp VI, which is taking video platform Rumble Inc public, added 3.3%.
Twitter Inc slipped 1.7%, while Facebook shed 1%.
