President Biden is going on prime-time TV tonight. To address the nation on protecting America's democracy When he does, Independence Hall, the home of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, will be the backdrop.

I've already seen several Philadelphia police officers in the mall during these early morning hours. No sign of secret service yet. We know that they've been preparing for the president's speech. This entire area will be closed tonight while President Biden delivers his speech.

Now, security was already tight here in the mall yesterday. Visitors couldn't help but notice all of the uniformed officers in the area. And you can expect much more of the same today.

According to the White House, President Biden's speech will be about the continuing battle for the soul of the nation. He picked Philadelphia as the backdrop, specifically the birthplace of American democracy and Independence Hall.

Philadelphia road closures update

Police say you can expect significant road closures around Independence Mall tonight. They'll be shutting down about four blocks in total, from fourth to sixth street and market to Chestnut street in Philadelphia. Those road closures could start as early as 4:00 this evening. The president himself isn't expected to deliver his speech until about 8:00 PM tonight. He is expected to speak for about 20 to 30 minutes.
