White House Press Briefing |
Karine Jean-Pierre (KJP) is asked about the Biden Administration's possible involvement in Twitter content moderation decisions.
A reporter asked the White House press secretary: "On Twitter, Elon Musk this week fired the former FBI general counsel Jim Baker, who was serving as a top Twitter lawyer." Musk alleges that he may have been involved in countermanding his attempts at transparency. And I was wondering if anyone in the Biden Administration was in touch with Baker recently, either regarding moderation decisions that critics called political censorship or regarding his transparency efforts.
KJP replied: It's up to private companies to make these types of decisions; we were not involved. I can say that we were not involved, and as I've said several times this week already, we've talked and had this conversation many times in this briefing room. Just a few days ago, it was up to these companies to make their own decisions about the content on their platform and to ensure that content flows there in accordance with standards as well as their own standards and policies. I don't have anything more to share. We were simply responding to a question; we were not involved, please understand.
