At a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) spoke about the Green New Deal.
In a recent hearing, Representative Lauren Boebert from Colorado expressed her support for two bills aimed at streamlining the permitting process and promoting responsible energy production. However, she also lashed out at Democratic Representative Squalachi for his comments regarding the Green New Deal.
Boebert argued that the Green New Deal and renewable energy sources are being forced upon people by the federal government, rather than allowing the market to decide. She further criticized the government's heavy subsidies for renewables, which she claimed were not truly renewable.
Boebert also expressed her support for her own bill, H.R 1067, which she claimed would help reduce gas prices by providing certainty for energy producers. She questioned the Biden Administration's compliance with the leasing mandates in the Mineral Leasing Act and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, and whether the bills being discussed would force future administrations to comply with the law.
During the hearing, Mr. Knotts explained that the reported 9,000 drilling permits that President Biden referenced were incorrect and potentially due to a clerical error or computer system malfunction. The actual number of permits was reduced to 16 or 6,600, with many of them tied up in litigation by the environmental community.
Overall, the hearing highlighted the contentious issues surrounding energy production and the role of the government in promoting responsible and sustainable practices. While some, like Boebert, may feel that the market should dictate the direction of the industry, others believe that government intervention is necessary to protect the environment and promote cleaner sources of energy.
