At his 2023 Florida State of the State address on Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) slammed federal spending, and a range of other policy issues.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently criticized President Joe Biden's policies, citing excessive spending and printing of money as the reason for the current economic crisis faced by Americans. DeSantis claims that Floridians have been affected by this inflation crisis, and therefore, he has worked to reduce the pain of inflation by enacting over $1 billion in tax relief in this current year's budget.
Additionally, DeSantis has slashed tolls by 50% for Florida commuters for this calendar year, which is expected to save some families more than $1,000. The Governor thanked the legislature for stepping up for Florida consumers and delivering much-needed economic relief.
DeSantis also emphasized his support for law and order and the men and women of law enforcement. He promised prosecutors who disregard the law that they will be held accountable. To ensure the state has enough law enforcement officers, DeSantis enacted a recruitment bonus program that has surpassed expectations. Officer Mercedes Phillips from the Cape Coral Police Department is one of the beneficiaries of the recruitment bonus program. She received a $5,000 signing bonus this summer and moved from Montgomery County, Maryland, to Cape Coral.
DeSantis also believes that borders matter and has fought against illegal immigration in the State of Florida. The Governor has banned Sanctuary cities and sued the Biden Administration over its Catch and Release policies. The state has also transported illegal aliens to Sanctuary jurisdictions, putting Floridians first.
The Governor has provided robust support for K-12 education, including record increases in teacher salaries, expanding school choice, and protecting the rights of parents. Takisha Barrow, a fifth-grade teacher from Renaissance Charter School in Wellington and a U.S army veteran, joined DeSantis at the event. She had left the teaching profession for some time, but the salary increases enticed her to return. Barrow brought her U.S army experience back into the classroom.
In conclusion, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has been actively working to improve the economic situation in his state by delivering economic relief, supporting law and order, fighting against illegal immigration, and providing support for K-12 education. His policies are aimed at putting Floridians first and making the state a better place for all its residents.
